NESTLER Newsletter – 1st Newsletter

We are pleased to present the 1st newsletter of NESTLER, offering a comprehensive overview of the project’s news, recent developments and ongoing activities. We invite all stakeholders, policy makers, researchers, farmers, and agri-tech providers, to stay informed and engaged with NESTLER’s ongoing work.

NESTLER is a joint project between the EU and African member states designed to promote One-Health sustainable partnership. With the collaboration of partners across Europe and Africa, the project aims to bring together interdisciplinary technological advances to effectively monitor the well-being of animals, plants, and humans in a holistic approach.

Implementation of the pilot based on smart agriculture of tomato using organic fertilizers and IoT devices as part of the Nestler Project (Part 1)

Agrix Tech based in Cameroon and specializing in precision agriculture is responsible for carrying out a pilot on intelligent tomato cultivation with the use of IoT, intelligent irrigation systems and intelligent management of diseases and pests.

NESTLER presented at the 1st Automation & Robotics expo in Athens, Greece

Synelixis presented NESTLER at the 1st Automation & Robotics Exhibition in Greece! The exhibition A &R EXPO ’24 took place on 12-14 April 2024 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo. Within the framework of the 1st Automation & Robotics Exhibition in Greece, we had the opportunity to inform visitors about the major contribution of precision agriculture to modern rural production.

The project coordinator visited the pilots in Kenya

The project coordinator visited the NESTLER pilots in Kenya. In total, the project’s outcomes will be demonstrated on pilot scenarios across six African member states (Cameroon, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria).

In Rwanda, the Livestock and Marine farming pilot is being led by the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB). The first trial, P.RWA.1, involves livestock and will be conducted in Muhanga. The second trial, P.RWA.2, is located in Nkungu Aquaculture and Fisheries Research site.

SynField smart agriculture systems installed in Nigeria

The Crop quality monitoring solutions and impact on food security pilot in Nigeria will be conducted by IITA in Ibadan, Nigeria, utilizing research farms as the primary setting for gathering environmental and farm-level data.

NESTLER was showcased in Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) General Assembly

The 1st CLMS General Assembly took place from 3 to 4 June 2024 in Antwerp, Belgium and brought 300+ people online and in-person, from industry experts to researchers and policymakers.

NESTLER presented at the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health (AFSH) summit 2024

European Union [NESTLER] and Rockefeller Foundation through International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) jointly with the Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR- ICRAF) organized a side-event during the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health [AFSH] summit titled “Agroecological and Regenerative Innovations for Soil Health and Sustainable Production”.
