Farmers participated in a training program on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae farming, using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) developed under the NESTLER Project. Protein derived from Black Soldier Fly larvae meal has the potential to replace soybean or fish meal protein in aquaculture feed. A total of 30 farmers took part in this training session, which was organized by RAB and held from May 26 to May 31, 2024.

This training was highly significant, as it equipped the participating farmers with the skills needed to train others in their communities. Each participant committed to training at least three additional individuals under the supervision of the NESTLER project staff, fostering knowledge dissemination across the community.

The training program included both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical sessions were conducted in a classroom setting, while the practical sessions took place at a poultry site and the BSF Larvae Production Unit located in Rwanda. The five-day training schedule consisted of:
• 2 days of classroom-based theoretical sessions,
• 2 days of hands-on training at the poultry site and BSF Larvae Unit, and
• 1 day of a field visit to an experienced BSF farmer in the southern part of the country.
To date, approximately 100 farmers have been trained in BSF larvae farming under the NESTLER Project.
