The project’s outcomes will be demonstrated on pilot scenarios across six African member states (Cameroon, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria). The Livestock and Marine farming pilot in Rwanda will be led by the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB).
The first trial, P.RWA.1, will be conducted in Muhanga, Small Stock Research Centre (MSRC). For research purposes, SynField precision farming equipment was installed to monitor and record the environmental conditions and to collect real-time data from livestock and the surrounding environment that affect livestock production. The installation includes 2 SynField X3 head nodes and 2 SynAir nodes. The SynField system will monitor the climatological and weather conditions prevailing in the selected areas, as well as the air quality characteristics. Monitoring air quality is vital for optimizing production practices and ensuring livestock well-being. Continuous assessment of important parameters allows to proactively identify potential environmental stressors, enabling timely interventions to mitigate adverse impacts on productivity and animal health.
